My Vision for This Blog

“How you think about God will determine who you become. You aren’t just a byproduct of ‘nature.’ You are a byproduct of your God-picture. And that internal picture of God determines how you see everything else."
A.W. Tozer

“Discouragement is such a powerful weapon because it comes close to the opposite of faith. Where faith believes God and His love and promises, discouragement looks for and believes the worst – and tends to almost forget about who God is and what He has promised to do.” David Guzik

It is vital that we view God, others, ourselves, and our lives with the right perspective. The mind and the heart is the battleground for life. What we think is SO important! This is especially true when troubles come our way.

When we go through trials and carry burdens that seem unending, without intentional effort, our mindset will be distorted by the care, pain, or sorrow we feel. There’s no escaping it. Other times, it’s just the mundane nature of life, and a sense of powerlessness and boredom from the belief that life has no real value, that overcomes us. In both cases we may think, “This will never change.”

Then bitterness creeps in and takes over our spirit. Frustration leads to deep-seated anger. Cares pile on and we develop anxiety that replays itself over and over in our mind, day after day.

We work differently when we believe than when we are discouraged. We pray differently under faith or under discouragement. We read and hear the Word differently under faith or under discouragement. It is no wonder that Satan works so hard to keep us from faith and keep us in discouragement.” David Guzik

Because it’s so easy to be overcome by these sins, it’s crucial we strive to think the right thoughts. We must strive to view God, others, ourselves, and our lives in light of His heavenly perspective, resisting the pull of self-pity, the tug of doubt, and the weight of worry. But the resistance is truly so great! How can we sustain our spirits under so much pressure?

When I am going through something hard, there’ve been times that a few words have totally changed my perspective and my life. A single phrase I’ve read has given me the victory that I’ve been praying for for days, even months, on end! The power of a few words to change our lives is the reason I’ve started this blog. Friend, I pray the truths that have helped and challenged me to gain new victories will have the same effect on your spirit!

The battle doesn’t end the moment truth is first revealed, though. We must not let go of truth. We’ve got to white-knuckle it! Because it’s natural to return to what we formerly believed, it’s necessary to renew our minds daily so that we may gain back that precious spiritual ground we’ve lost.

That’s just the reason I love poetry, songs, and quotes so much. Because of their simple repetition and pertness, they stick with me. They come to me at just the right moment, as if an unseen companion whispered to my troubled thoughts. When I’m tempted to give up, they remind me of the holy trajectory I’m on.

The trajectory of living by faith in a loving God who reveals to us the true way to see others, ourselves, and our lives from His heavenly, holy view. The trajectory of life’s highest pursuit: To glorify the Lord of glory in every blessing or trial He gives us in His perfect, loving wisdom.

Never underestimate the power of a few words to change your life. I pray you will be strengthened by what you read here.

May we strive higher and higher to think thoughts worthy of our holy God. He is so great and good, and He can’t do us wrong! May He renew and strengthen our spirits within us as we seek Him.
